No Bond For Man Charged In Senior Center Murders
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 66-year-old man has been ordered held without bond, charged in the shooting deaths of two women at a Detroit senior housing complex.
Mike Reda was arraigned via video on Wednesday before Magistrate Steve Lockhart in 36th District Court.
He lived at the Pablo Davis Elder Living Center in southwest Detroit where he allegedly gunned down 59-year-old Deborah Socia and 61-year-old Maria Gonzalez following a breakup with his girlfriend on Sunday, Oct. 20,
Reda faces six felony counts which include first-degree, premeditated murder, attempted murder, felony assault, home invasion and felony firearms.
Police said Reda, armed with a long gun, first shot Socia as she sat on a bench outside the apartment building. He then went inside and shot Gonzalez.
Both had multiple gunshot wounds, according to Worthy County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
The victims were friends of his Reda's former girlfriend and prosecutors say he blamed them for the breakup.
Reda, who does not have a lawyer, had the judge enter a plea of not guilty.
His preliminary exam is scheduled for Oct. 31 at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice.
