No Bond For Detroit Mom In Child's Stabbing Murder
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit mother accused of in the stabbing death of her 8-year-old daughter will remain behind bars now that she has been formally charged with murder and child abuse.
No bond was set for 27-year-old Semeria Greene, who was arraigned via video feed at 36th District Court in Detroit on Thursday.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis reported Greene showed no emotion as her lawyer entered not guilty pleas on her behalf.
Tamera Greene was found dead early Sunday morning in her home on Larned Street near downtown Detroit. An autopsy determined that the girl died of a single stab wound to the chest.
Semeria Greene's attorney, Cornelius Pitts, spoke with reporters outside the courthouse.
"What little I know about this case -- notice the emphasis upon little -- it appears that there is a serious question as to her emotional, mental state," said Pitts. "At this stage of the preceding it's important to understand that whether or not my client, the defendant, fully appreciates the consequences of her conduct."
Pitts said he will order a competency exam for his client.
Greene will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 16.
Her four remaining children, ages 7, 4, 2 and 1, are in the care of Child Protective Services.
