NFL Coaches To Mortensen: 'Lions Would Be Foolish To Part With Stafford'

Everyone has his or her own opinion on the Detroit Lions starting QB Matthew Stafford.

Just Thursday NFL.com put out their list of the top 32 QBs in the league and Stafford came in at 29.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen has talked to seven NFL coaches and personnel men, and according to them the Lions would be 'foolish' to get rid of Stafford.

The speculation on Stafford is almost laughable, except nobody really knows who will be calling the shots for the Lions when they restructure their organization. In a small sample survey of seven NFL coaches and personnel men, they were unanimous that the Lions would be foolish to part with Stafford.

The story is actually about the organization's  choices that surround Calvin Johnson.

Mortensen makes a point that the Lions could be better off "dumping him" and going after a player like Alshon Jeffery from the Chicago Bears who is a free agent at season's end.

By dumping him, Johnson would count only $8 million on the Lions' salary cap. Maybe they could go sign Bears pending free agent Alshon Jeffery at a more friendly deal.

If you could only choose one, would you be happier with the Lions getting rid of Stafford or Johnson? Vote in the poll below.
