Next Generation Offshore Wind Power Presentation Coming To Muskegon
MUSKEGON (WWJ) -- A presentation about "next generation offshore wind turbine technology" will take place Thursday, Aug. 15 at Grand Valley State University's Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center.
Glosten Associates, an international marine engineering and naval architecture firm in Seattle, has developed Pelastar, a tension leg sub-surface floating platform system, as an alternative to traditional fixed bedrock construction that installs wind turbine towers on lake or ocean bottoms.
The floating platform technology has the potential to substantially reduce both cost and possible environmental impacts while improving the public perception of offshore wind technology.
Charles Nordstrom, naval architect and marine engineer for Glosten Associates, will discuss the potential of the new technology, current progress with prototype development, and what this technology may mean for the development off shore wind energy in the Great Lakes.
The briefing will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the MAREC, 200 Viridian Drive in downtown Muskegon.
