New Penalties For Driving Violations In School Zones
DETROIT (WWJ) - Tougher rules of the road will be in effect just in time for the kids returning to school. Effective with the new school year beginning Tuesday, fines are doubled for moving violations --such as not stopping for flashing red lights -- in school bus safety zones.
The new laws also make it a misdemeanor to injure a child getting on or off a school bus; killing a child is a felony.
State law requires drivers to wait until the red flights stop flashing before driving past the school bus.
