New Orleans Man Accused Of Gunning Down Pontiac Man With High-Powered Rifle
PONTIAC (WWJ) - A New Orleans man is behind bars facing an expected murder charge after a shooting in Pontiac.
The 27-year-old suspect is accused of shooting a 30-year-old Pontiac man numerous times with a high-powered rifle, late Tuesday afternoon, near Markle and Barkell Ave.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies on an unrelated call at an apartment complex could hear a flurry of gunshots coming from a nearby neighborhood just before the 911 calls began pouring in, shortly before 5 p.m.
The victim was taken by EMS to McLaren Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect — allegedly found with the murder weapon in his possession — was taken into custody Wednesday morning. Authorities also took possession of vehicle that they say was also used in commission of the crime.
It's unclear what led to the shooting.
Formal charges are pending against the suspect who remains lodged at the Oakland County Jail as an investigation continues.
An autopsy has been scheduled. Neither the suspect of the victim's name was immediately released.
