New Civil Rights Office
A new civil rights office is open for business in Southeast Michigan, and the U.S. Attorneys office is at the helm of this unit.
"If someone's been a victim of a hate crime, we'll take your case. If someone's been a victim of discrimination in housing, we'll take your case. If someone's been denied access based on a disability we'll take your case. If a service member has been denied employment because of his inability to be present in the United States, we'll take your case," said U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade.
Anyone with suspected civil rights violations is asked to call (313) 226-9151.
"People feel that they've been a victim of a civil rights violation... we want them to call us and let us know so that we can investigate and bring perpetrators to justice. Nothing is more important than the freedoms we enjoy as Americans," said McQuade.
