New 8 Mile Marketplace Reaches Out To Eminem
DETROIT (WWJ) Creators of the much-anticipated 8 Mile Marketplace are hoping to get rapper Eminem to help them celebrate the opening of the first major retail development in Detroit in two decades.
A celebration next month will mark the opening of the Gateway Marketplace on 8 Mile at Woodward. It also coincides with the 10th anniversary of Eminem's only movie, aptly titled "8 Mile."
The 36-acre marketplace features 325,000 square feet of retail space, including a new Meijer store, PNC Bank, McDonald's, and Dots. It will connect the south Oakland County suburbs of Ferndale and Hazel Park with Detroit at the dividing line of 8 Mile.
The psychological divide between the suburbs and city was featured prominently in Eminem's movie.
So will he make an appearance?
"I mean we would be open to that, we would be grateful to have him, I think it would be great for him to be part of the opening of the retail center, it would be great, so we do intent to reach out to him," said Tami Salisbury, director of the 8 Mile Boulevard Association.
