Crash Closes NB I-275, Hazmat On Scene
Traffic alert in the western Wayne County suburbs: Northbound I-275 remained closed Wednesday afternoon, between Eureka Road and I-94, after a semi flipped over on the ramp from I-275 to westbound I-94.
The truck was carrying a variety of chemicals, including hydrogen peroxide, which is leaking, according to Michigan State Police.
Hazardous materials teams responded following the crash Wednesday morning.
Troopers told WWJ's Ron Dewey the 18-wheeler was northbound on I-275 when a car trying to reach the exit ramp to eastbound I-94 cut it off. In trying to avoid a collision, the tractor trailer went out of control and flipped over on its side, blocking the ramp, and forcing the closure of I-275 northbound.
The semi driver was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
Drivers can use Wayne and Hannan roads to get around the problem.
