Naval Destroyer, The USS Edson, Gets Tow Along Detroit River

DETROIT (WWJ) - It was a sight to be seen Sunday night on the waterways of the Detroit River as a U.S. naval destroyer, the USS Edson,  was towed from Canada.

Joel Hepola, a dispatcher for the J.W. Wescott - the Great Lakes marine delivery service, described it as a one- of-a-kind experience to see a navy ship here in Detroit.

"We see a few boats occasionally coming down ... this one ... I remember hearing about it a month ago and we're excited about it," said Hepola.

Hepola said the best view of the large ocean tug Colonel towing the Edson was late afternoon Sunday at Belle Isle in Detroit.

The ship is en route to Bay City where it will be on display as a museum ship.
