Native Michiganders Caught In Texas Flooding

DETROIT (WWJ) - The city of Houston has seen about 11 inches of rain in six hours, leaving roadways flooded and waterways swollen.

Stranded amid the flood are Kate Mangona and her husband Victor -- originally from Detroit-- who were trying to get to their Houston, Texas home from Dallas Monday afternoon.

Kate says they had to pull over several times during their drive... and around 11 p.m. they gave up and slept in their car. They're still stranded in Houston, just 20 minutes from their house, and they're surrounded by water.

"Some of these other cars were driving right into it, stalling, some of them are tipping into ditches," said Mangona. "One guy took his shoes off - hopped out of his car and stood on top of his car for somebody to rescue him. People are in boats, little tiny boats piling around."

With a small supply of water and snacks, Mangona says it does look like the water is receding, and they hope to start their trek home soon.
