NL Beats AL 5-1
PHOENIX, AZ (WWJ/AP) - In an All Star Game that included many Detroit Tigers, their bats were fairly quiet during the American League loss to the National League 5-1 on Tuesday night.
The National League make it two in a row with the strong win over the American League in Phoenix.
Prince Fielder hit a three-run homer, Roy Halladay and his relief stayed in control and the National League to beat the AL for its first two-game winning streak since the mid-1990s.
The victory gave the NL home-field advantage in the World Series. With several big names as no-shows at Chase Field, the AL lost more than the game.
Boston ace Josh Beckett warmed up, then bowed out with a sore knee. Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera left after appearing to hurt his side.
The Nationals won two in a row for the first time since taking three straight from 1994-96 - they had lost 12 consecutive games played to a decision before a 3-1 victory at Anaheim last year.
