Nate Burleson Talks 'Rodeo' Reggie Bush's Style, Megatron's Gear, Scheffler's Hair
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Turns out it's not just girls who go crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man -- sometimes NFL players do, too.
The Lions' Nate Burleson took time after practice Wednesday to talk style, including Calvin Johnson's gear, Tony Scheffler's new bleach blonde hair, and Reggie Bush's look.
Suffice it to say, Burleson's own look isn't something that happens by accident.
Vanity Fair created a Best-Dressed Men of The NFL feature, which had not one -- but two, current Lions players on it: Burleson and the suave Reggie Bush, who used his style and chiseled good looks to land, and then dump, a Kardashian.
Burleson was tapped as a style icon for the fact he had a different suit custom tailored every week when he played with the Seattle Seahawks to match the colors of his opponent. He also has a "shoe closet the size of a one-bedroom apartment."
Bush was lauded for a particular outfit (pictured) where he matched linen pants to a waist coat, sports jacket, and flashy watch. He's also known to coordinate red carpet looks with his date of the moment.
Burleson wasn't having it.
"Reggie was right in front of me, he was four, I was five, I kind of took that personally," he said. "Before he got here, I had a little animosity about that list. I've got to come with my A game week to week just to show everybody that I can out-dress Rodeo, we call him Rodeo by the way."
How will he do it?
"It's the combination ... it's more than the shoes ... When it comes to the suit, you've got to have a little bit of everything, a tie clip, nice tie, you might have a handkerchief," he said.
But there's one thing he won't do. "We don't do hats too much, it's not Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory here," Burleson said.
He also weighed in on Calvin Johnson's array of Nike items, saying the superstar isn't shy about sharing with teammates.
"Calvin is a mega-star, so he gets commercials and print ads and things like that," Burleson said, laughing off any Nike offers he's had himself and saying he doesn't share Johnson's high profile. "We tease Calvin, but he's like the quiet storm, he doesn't say much."
Does he hook up teammates?
"We get all the Calvin Johnsons, we get all the gear," Burleson said. "He takes care of us pretty good."
Tony Scheffler showed up at practice with a bleached blonde 'do that turned heads. Like Samson, Burleson thinks the look will boost him to make big, big plays.
"The Marshall Mathers? I asked him why he did he dye his hair, he said he wants to go berserk," Burleson said, laughing. "I can't blame him, I'm a fan of anything different, so Shef, he's one of those guys, he needs things like that to get him going. Because he did that, I'm calling his shot and say he's going to make a big play or a couple of big plays during the game."
