NASCAR, Pure Michigan Team Up For August Race
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ)- Just hours before some of the most popular race car drivers would be on the track at MIS, Michigan International Speedway and Pure Michigan announced the August NASCAR race would be sponsored by Pure Michigan.
The Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race will take place Sunday, August 21st.
"This partnership will bring our Pure Michigan message to millions of NASCAR fans nationwide who will be watching the Pure Michigan 400 on ESPN as well as the tens of thousands who come to Michigan International Speedway on race days," said Michael Finney, President and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, in a statement released early Sunday.
The Pure Michigan campaign has been trying to attract visitors from across the United States to Michigan.
The one-year partnership will put the tourism campaign before more than 75 million racing fans. The deal will follow an $11.5 million Pure Michigan national cable television advertising campaign that is airing through early July.
"The key to successful partnerships is finding organizations which have similar goals. Michigan International Speedway and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation want people to come to this state and see all the wonderful things it has to offer - beautiful landscapes, fun activities year-round and awesome NASCAR racing," said MIS President Roger Curtis.
NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series Helua Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 will be run Sunday afternoon.
Other events planned for the August race include Meijer Pole Day on August 20th and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series VFW 200
Sunday, August 21st.
