NASCAR Driver Jeff Gordon Joins Forces With Gleaners
DETROIT (WWJ) - NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon visited Detroit to kick off a month-long food drive in conjunction with Gleaners Community Food Bank and Quicken Loans.
The #24 Drive To End Hunger is focused on the elderly.
"You know, I feel fortunate that I was made aware of this, because I had no idea," Gordon said during his stop in the Motor City on Thursday. "I had no idea that more than 9 million (people) 50 and older are having these type of issues in this country.
Gordon said when he was first approached with the idea of his spearheading the drive -- he immediately signed on.
"It's brought me to cities all over the country to places like Gleaners here, that do amazing work gathering the food, sorting the food, packaging the food, and then distributing the food," Gordon said.
Gleaners says that for every dollar that is donated they'll be able to feed three hungry senior citizens.
