NAACP Still Defending Honoree Choices
DETROIT (WWJ) - The NAACP's 56th Annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner is just a week away, and there's still controversy surrounding this year's recipient of the Great Expectations Award, Detroit singer Kid Rock, who uses a Confederate Flag during his concerts.
President of the Detroit Branch of the NAACP Reverend Wendell Anthony says he would prefer that Kid Rock NOT use a flag, but says he's not backing down on his decision.
"I don't think that Kid Rock who has black folk in his band, who hires black folks,who is raising his black son, who's advocating for a black city, who is with black Motown, that 50th Annual...on the stage with Stevie Wonder and the Four Tops or Temptations at Detroit Renaissance Center, I don't think that speaks to him or reflects him," says Anthony.
Anthony was on this morning's Channel 7 "Spotlight on the News."
