Muslim Group Files More Suits In Slain Imam Probe
A Muslim civil rights group has sued more police agencies for failing to release information related to the killing of a Detroit mosque leader during a shootout with the FBI.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations' Michigan chapter said it filed lawsuits Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court against Detroit and Dearborn police departments.
"We want answers," said the council's Dawud Walid.
Walid tells WWJ that both of these police departments, along with other agencies, failed to release information in the death of Imam Luqman Ameen Abdullah.
"There will be more lawsuits to come, in regards to other law enforcement agencies that were involved," Walid said.
The organization last week sued the Michigan State Police. That agency was part of a task force that conducted raids leading Abdullah's death at a Dearborn warehouse in October.
Detroit Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens said the agency can't comment. A message was left for a Dearborn spokeswoman.
The FBI says Abdullah was killed after he fired a gun and resisted arrest in a stolen-goods sting operation.
