Murder Warrant Authorized For Fugitive Wanted In Girlfriend's Slaying
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Authorities in Oakland County are still hunting for a murder suspect who allegedly suffocated his girlfriend and stuffed her body in a closet.
The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office on Thursday authorized a first-degree murder warrant for 33-year-old Kevin Jermaine Wiley, who is the primary suspect in the death of 30-year-old Marie Colburn.
Colburn's body was found stuffed in a closet of her Pontiac apartment, in the 100-block of Ridgemont, by her mother last Friday night. Authorities said she had been suffocated. A notice from the Michigan Department of Corrections had been attached to Colburn's front door in an effort to contact Wiley.
Police say Wiley, who is on parole for a manslaughter conviction, cut off his electronic tether somewhere in Detroit. "He's got a two, two-and-a-half day head start of us," said Sheriff Mike Bouchard.
Investigators say Wiley was released from jail just over a month before Colburn was killed, and his criminal past doesn't stop there.
"This is an individual who had been in prison. He'd been charged with homicide and armed robbery, pleaded down to manslaughter, got back out, had multiple arrests for dangerous drugs, got back out, was convicted as a burglary, got back out again — and all of this within about 10 years," Bouchard told WWJ's Zahra Huber.
Police say Wiley is believed to still be in the greater Detroit area at this time. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
Anyone with information on Wiley's whereabouts is urged to contact the Sheriff's Office tip line at 1-888-TURN-1-IN or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
