Murder Suspect Waives Hearing In Obstruction Case
CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - A prosecutor says a metro Detroit man who's charged with obstructing police investigating the killings of a woman and her 11-year-old daughter is a top suspect in their murders.
Jay T. Miller, 29, waived a preliminary examination Monday on the obstruction charge, and Clinton Township District Judge Matthew Rumora ordered his $200,000 bond remain in place while the case proceeds.
Tina Geiger, 46, and her daughter, 10-year-old Chrissy, were found dead at the Parkway Village Apartments, in the area of Harper and Metro Parkway on July 30.
The mother and daughter, who are both described as being mentally challenged, had their throats slashed in what police called a "brutal and bloody" murder.
According to police, there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment, making it likely the victims knew their killer.
Defense lawyer Ron Paige told the Detroit Free Press that his client is being held on "trumped up charges."
In court, Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Erin Alman said Miller is a threat to the community, a convicted sex offender and a top murder suspect.
Alman didn't directly cite the Geigers' deaths.
It's still unclear what relationship Miller may have had to the victims.
