Murder Count For Girl In Boyfriend's Shooting

PIPESTONE TWP. (AP) - A 16-year-old southwestern Michigan girl has been charged with second-degree murder, accused of shot-gunning her 21-year-old boyfriend after a night of drinking and arguing.

Berrien County Prosecutor Arthur Cotter says the teen shot David Quinn Jr. in the face early Tuesday at Quinn's house in Pipestone Township, 75 miles south-southwest of Grand Rapids.

Cotter says he's petitioned to have the case moved to adult criminal court because of its seriousness and the fact that the girl turns 17 in two months. Seventeen-year-olds are adults under Michigan criminal law.

Defense lawyer Lanny Fisher says his client was hurt fighting with her boyfriend, was under the influence of alcohol and hadn't been in trouble before.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered her held on a $500,000 bond pending a hearing Feb 10.
