Dearborn Man Charged In Basketball Court Murder
DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A 34-year-old Dearborn resident has been charged with first degree murder after he allegedly shot and killed a 23-year-old Dearborn resident following an argument at a pickup basketball game.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Fadi Hassan Faraj with first degree murder and felony firearm in connection with the homicide of 23-year-old Hassan Mustapha Zeidan.
On July 13, at approximately 7:30 pm, Zeidan and Faraj were playing basketball in a parking lot located in the 6400 block of Dearborn when the two men got into a verbal argument that turned into a physical fight.
It is alleged that after the fight was over, Faraj went to his car and retrieved a hand gun. When he exited the car he fatally shot Zeidan. Police Lieutenant Patricia Penman said Faraj shot Zeidan multiple times.
Participants at the basket ball game apprehended Faraj when he attempted to flee the scene and held him until police officers arrived.
Faraj is expected to be arraigned Friday at the 20th District Court in Dearborn Heights.
