Murder Charges Against Man Police Wouldn't Arrest
DETROIT (AP) - First-degree murder charges have been filed against an ex-con suspected in a double-slaying who had to turn himself in twice before Detroit police would arrest him.
Authorities say the 36-year-old man got into an argument at a party Saturday, retrieved a rifle and opened fire.
They say he shot four people, killing 37-year-old Leshawn Glover and 23-year-old Chad Berry. Adris McCullough tried to surrender at a fire station two hours later and fire officials called police, but no officers arrived.
Police say officers were busy with "high priority runs."
McCullough eventually went to a police station, where he was arrested.
Wayne County prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller says McCullough also is charged with assault with intent to murder and felony firearms counts. Miller says she doesn't believe he has a lawyer.
