Murder Charge Filed In Flint Teen's Death
FLINT (WWJ/AP) - A man accused of fatally striking a teenager with a van as she walked to church in Flint has been charged with second-degree murder.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says Misty Kurmas was struck by a van driven by a man who thought he was trying to evade his enemies on Sept. 28.
Leyton says Mark Blount actually was being followed by police.
Blount was wanted on drug charges when Misty was hit.
Her mother, Martha Walker said the 13-year-old was walking to meet others in a church youth group.
"That's the sad part. She was going to see God," Walker told the newspaper.
According to a district spokesman, Misty was a seventh grader at Flint's Classical Academy.
Blount is in jail in an unrelated case.
