Murder Charge Filed After Detroit Officer Dies
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A man accused of striking a Detroit police officer with his car in the Greektown entertainment area has been charged with murder.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office added charges Monday because Officer Charles Armour has died from his injuries. He died on June 11, six days after being struck while on foot, on the job in Greektown after midnight.
Saddam Mohsin, 30, is charged with first-degree murder, murder of a police officer, failure to stop at an accident scene and other crimes. The Buffalo, New York resident has been in custody for two weeks.
A request for a psychiatric exam likely will suspend the case for a while. A court date was set for August 22.
"The loss of this dedicated officer is a profound loss to the community. Our hearts go out to the family of Officer Armour," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
Officers from Michigan and other states attended Armour's funeral Friday.
