Multiple Departments Battle Apartment Fire
CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Firefighters from at least five departments battled a massive blaze that heavily damages about 10 units at a Macomb County apartment complex.
The fire broke out late Friday morning at Harbor View Apartments in Clinton Township near M-59.
An administrator with the complex told WWJ Newsradio 950's Kathryn Larson that the fire was contained and everyone got out OK. At 11 a.m., flames continued to shoot out of the roof and smoke was billowing.
Margaret Hossey was babysitting her grandchildren when the fire broke out.
"It was frightening," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher. "But you know what? The thing I care about -- my granddaughters are out, the dogs are out ... these things can be replaced."
Melissa Bartel was at work when the fire broke out, but rushed home because of her pet.
"When I got here I saw the smoke right above my apartment, and I got a little freaked out," said Bartel. "I was shaking and I went to the firefighters and they went in and rescued my dog."
Her dog was fine. No one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
