Multi-Vehicle Accident Ties Up Traffic On I-696
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - A major accident caused traffic backups on I-696 in Royal Oak for about an hour Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on eastbound I-696 near Campbell Road, just west of the I-75 interchange.
Authorities say four vehicles were involved in the crash, although it wasn't immediately clear if anyone was injured.
The crash blocked four lanes of traffic, leaving only the left lane open for passing vehicles. Backups were reported as far away as Coolidge Highway.
The lanes were closed for just over an hour, but have since reopened.
