Pair Of Accidents Shuts Down I-275 At 8 Mile Road
NORTHVILLE (WWJ) - Two semi truck were among several vehicles involved in a pair of accidents, Wednesday afternoon, along I-275 in Northville and Livonia.
According to Michigan State Police, no one was seriously hurt.
The accidents happened just before 2:30 p.m. and troopers were still working to upright a semi truck an hour later.
A tanker truck was leaking from its trailer, but it was a non-hazardous gas, according to police.
"It is nothing short of amazing," reported WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett, "after seeing some of those cars, including one rolled up underneath that tanker, that everyone involved in this was able to walk away."
Southbound I-275 was completely shut down at 8 Mile Road for hours. Traffic was stopped from 9 Mile Road, and motorists were urged to avoid the area as the afternoon commute began.
The freeway reopened just before 5 p.m.
