MSU Reopens Kellogg Center Kitchen After Stomach Illnesses

EAST LANSING (AP) - Michigan State University has reopened the kitchen of the Kellogg Center and a public restaurant inside the center that were closed following cases of stomach illness reported in recent days.

The Lansing State Journal reports the cases prompted the closings Monday from the university. Linda Vail, health officer for the Ingham County Health Department, says about 25 guests who attended an event Feb. 18 at the Kellogg Center have reported suffering from nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Vail says health officials initially focused on the event, but have broadened their investigation.

University spokesman Jason Cody says no cases of illness from restaurant customers have been reported, but that the restaurant was closed "out of an abundance of caution."

He says they're serving food again on Wednesday after a thorough cleaning.
