MSU Guards Go Undrafted, First O-U Player Ever Drafted In NBA
Michigan State standouts Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers were not picked in Thursday night's NBA draft. Lucas and Summers, both guards, were seniors last season for the Spartans.
Lucas averaged a team-high 17 points per game in 2010-11, coming back from a ruptured Achilles' tendon. Summers averaged 11.6 points.
But, other players in the state were lucky.
The Los Angeles Lakers selected Michigan guard Darius Morris with the No. 41 pick in the draft on Thursday.
Morris was named to the All-Big Ten third team as a sophomore, averaging 15 points and 6.7 assists, fifth-best nationally. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Morris holds the Michigan single-season record with 235 assists.
The Atlanta Hawks selected Oakland University's Keith Benson with the No. 48 draft pick. Benson is the first OU basketball player ever to be drafted into the NBA.
Benson, a 6-foot-11, 217-pound center, averaged 17.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.6 blocks in his senior year.
