MSP Trooper Drags Unconscious Man Out of Burning Car

(CBS DETROIT) - Michigan State Police say a vehicle and a boat were destroyed this morning around 6:15 am in a fire on eastbound I-94 near Haggerty Road in Van Buren Twp. It happened Tuesday morning when police said the boat separated from the trailer caused the fire.

When the Tropper arrived, a 63-year-old man was found unconscious and slumped over inside of a burning car alongside I-94.

According to MSP Metro Detroit on Twitter, "The troopers attempted to use his baton to break the passenger side window out. Due to the window tint on the front windows, he had to use his hands to push the window in. The trooper was then able to pull the driver from the truck."

MSP Metro says the man who was found unconscious and subsequently dragged out of the burning vehicle, was treated on scene by EMT's for low blood sugar. He was then transported to a local hospital.

The Trooper sustained lacerations to his arms and hands from breaking the glass with his baton and was treated at the scene. MSP Metro Detroit says the fire was caused by the unconscious man having his foot on the gas, which caused the tires to catch fire.
