Move To Change 'Term Limits' Law Fails
LANSING (WWJ) - It's a law that Michigan voters wanted: Term Limits. But now there's a move underway in the state to abolish the law.
WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports that there is not much support within the Michigan House to make changes to the current law.
"In reality, I think it is (not going to pass) because most people think term limits are a pretty good thing, and as a result modification doesn't exactly capture the imagination of the Michigan voters," said Bob LaBrandt with the Chamber of Commerce.
The move to change term limits has effectively died - failing to win support other than two lawmakers in the Michigan House.
Patrick Anderson wrote the original term limits law - and he was never on board to support any change.
"We have supported what the voters adopted. They adopted a very simple set of term limits that were consistent with the spirit of rotation in offices that goes back 200 years in American history," says Anderson.
Rick Olsen's idea to change term limits has effectively died - failing to win support other than two lawmakers in the Michigan House.
