Mount Clemens Teen Dies After Being Ejected From Car
DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say a 19-year-old was killed when he was ejected from his vehicle after crashing into a median on I-375.
Cody Michael Ponder, of Mount Clemens, was killed in the crash, which happened around 11:55 p.m. Wednesday on the southbound I-375 ramp to Madison Street in downtown Detroit.
Police say witnesses reported that the driver of a 2008 Pontiac G6, later identified as Ponder, lost control of his vehicle on the ramp and struck the median wall.
According to police, Ponder was ejected and his vehicle continued approximately 400 feet after the impact.
Ponder was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"Speed was a factor in this crash and seatbelts were not utilized," police said in a statement.
An investigation is ongoing.
