Motorcyclist Killed After Running Red Light
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Police say a motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning after running a red light in Dearborn.
The accident happened after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Gulley Road.
Police say the motorcyclist was traveling on Gulley when he ignored a flashing red light at Michigan Avenue. At the same time, a 1987 Monte Carlo traveling westbound on Michigan Avenue passed through a flashing yellow light and slammed into the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and landed on a strip of grass at a nearby gas station. He was declared dead on the scene.
Gas station clerk Musa Algami said it was just another day at work, until he heard tires squealing and a loud crash.
"I opened the door and I see the guy in the car coming out, running to the person that's laying on the ground. He starts screaming as soon as he sees him, just flipping out and going crazy, and then he passes out," he said.
Police said the motorcyclist, identified only as a 35-year-old Inkster man, wasn't wearing a helmet.
Dearborn police are investigating the accident.
