Motorcyclist Escapes Injury After Police Chase, Head-On Crash
DEXTER (WWJ/AP) - Police say a 21-year-old man escaped serious injury after crashing his motorcycle head-on into a police car following a chase that reached speeds of 115 mph.
The chase began around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers tried to stop the motorcyclist for speeding in Livingston County's Hamburg Township, about 35 miles west of Detroit.
Police say the motorcyclist sped off before eventually ending up in the Washtenaw County community of Dexter. As an officer drove in from the north, the motorcyclist approached from the south on his 2003 Yamaha, smashing head-on into the patrol car and causing extensive damage to both vehicles, The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell reported.
The officer had what were described as minor injuries from the crash. Police say the motorcyclist refused treatment and was arrested pending charges.
Both the motorcycle and the police car had extensive damage. The motorcyclist was held at the Livingston County Jail.
An investigation is ongoing.
