Mother Sentenced To Prison In Newborn's Death
A 30-year-old Plymouth Township woman is going to prison, convicted in the death of her newborn daughter. Emily Portellos, who is learning disabled, was sentenced Thursday on 2nd a degree murder conviction.
Police say Portellos gave birth to her child and then hid it in the trash.
Portellos went to a hospital emergency room in 2008, and despite definite signs, denied she had given birth. She then later admitted she had a baby daughter, wrapped in towels and a plastic bag, and left it in her bedroom.
Portellos faces a prison term of ten to twenty years.
