Moroun Peppers State With Fliers Against Proposal 6
DETROIT (WWJ)- On the eve on Election Day, Michigan voters statewide have received a flier from Ambassador Bridge owner Manuel "Matty" Moroun with a message that reads: "More of your money for Detroit?" against the backdrop of a blighted Detroit street.
The Proposal 6 ad asks voters not to let the politicians give away more pork projects and "special giveaways" for the new bridge.
This is just the latest salvo in Moroun's effort to prevent a public bridge to Canada, fighting hard to be able to build his own second span instead.
Moroun's efforts created Proposal 6, which would leave the question of whether to build a new public bridge from Detroit to Windsor in the hands of voters, potentially stalling the project.
Governor Rick Snyder and bridge proponents say the current public span proposed would come at no cost to Michigan taxpayers, but would pose competition for the Moroun-owned Ambassador Bridge.
Moroun has spent an estimated $33 million opposing the public bridge.
