More Than 8,200 Young Adults In Detroit Get Summer Jobs

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT/AP) — More than 8,200 teens and young adults are starting work this summer under the Grow Detroit's Young Talent program.

In its fifth year, the program features six weeks of summer employment that provide participants 14 to 24 years of age with training, on-the-job experiences, professional contacts and a head start on potential career paths.

Nearly $12 million has been raised to support the program this summer.

Most participants are working 20 hours per week at more than 500 sites with companies of various sizes. They also receive 12 hours of work readiness training. Jobs include community cleanups, event planning, accounting, retail and the Junior Police or Fire Cadets.

The city has partnered with employers, supporters and others who provide jobs and financial contributions.
