More Mich. Residents Give Obama Poor Job Rating
LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Battered by bad economic news, more Michigan voters say the country is on the wrong track and that they're unhappy with the job being done by President Barack Obama.
A poll released Friday by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA shows three-quarters of 600 likely voters polled Sunday through Tuesday think the country is on the wrong track, compared to 62 percent in July.
Only 14 percent think the country is headed in the right direction, compared to 25 percent last month.
"A lot of what has transpired in Washington and the stock market with the downgrade by Standard and Poor's, all of that, I think, collectively has caused people to really sour on their view of how the country is headed right now," said EPIC-MRA President Bernie Porn.
Sixty-five percent give the Democratic president a negative job rating, compared to 60 percent in July. His positive job rating has dropped from 39 percent last month to 34 percent in the latest poll.
The survey shows 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney's approval rating is dropping as well.
"His growing number of opponents in the Republican Presidential Primary, they've had an impact in terms of increasing his negative job rating. It's gone up significantly in the last couple of months and even in this last month," said Porn.
The poll showed Romney was 45 percent of the vote, compared with President Obama's 43 -- a tie when you factor in sampling error.
The poll was conducted earlier this week.
