More Lawsuits Filed In FBI Imam Shooting
More lawsuits are being filed by the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in the case of a Dearborn mosque leader who was shot and killed by FBI agents during a warehouse raid last year.
WWJ spoke with Lena Masri, an attorney for CAIR- Michigan, who said the lawsuits are against the FBI and Michigan Attorney General's office for failing to release video and audio surveillance of the raids.
"There is a lot of video surveillance that has not been released yet at the warehouse as well as at the other raids that took place that day," Masri said.
"As this time, because their investigation is closed, the Attorney Genera's Office should release all the information that we've asked for -- it is public information. We need to review that evidence in order to ascertain whether any civil rights were violated that day," she said.
The cameras were installed in that warehouse as part of a sting operation to arrest Luqman Ameen Abdullah and his followers.
FBI agents shot the imam 20 times. Investigations by the Attorney General's office and Justice Department said the agents did nothing wrong.
Lawsuits were filed previously against other police agencies including Michigan State and Dearborn police.
