Monroe Teen Killed In Head-On Collision
MONROE (WWJ) - An 18-year-old Monroe resident was killed Wednesday in a head-on crash in Frenchtown Township.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Jakup MacMullen was driving southbound on North Monroe Street north of Mall Road when he crossed the centerline and hit a freight truck that was hauling gas cylinders.
MacMullen was killed in the crash. The driver of the truck, 49-year-old Robert Swonger, and MacMullen's 21-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital where they are listed in stable condition.
Police say all involved were wearing safety belts and speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
