Monday Night Storm Leaves Thousands Without Power

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The overnight storm was quick -- but powerful -- and as a result, the morning after -- parts of Oakland County are littered with tree limbs, and there are thousands without power.

WWJ's Ron Dewey -- who's covering the storm damage -- says you could tell from the heat and humidity Monday night that something was going to be brewing and, indeed, 16,000 customers are without DTE service; 12,000 of those in Oakland County. A lot of that happening in the Southfield/Farmington Hills area; WWJ Newsradio 950 and CBS Detroit.com are getting reports of trees down in the 12 Mile/Lahser area.

There are also reports of power lines that came down in the 12 Mile/Telegraph area, apparently causing damage to some cars at one car dealership.

A DTE Energy spokesman says crews are working to get power restored and they're hoping to have everyone's lights back on by sometime Monday night.
