Mona Farroukh: Difference Maker In The Community
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Fifteen years ago Mona Farroukh came as a client of the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) and now she is the Director of the domestic violence unit.
Farroukh came from Lebanon to the United States during war in her country.
"I immigrated to this country; I have no family here," Farroukh said. "I left Lebanon and left the war to live in peace and happily ever after."
It didn't turn out that way for her when her husband made her a victim of domestic violence.
Farroukh says that she can relate first hand to victims of the matter. "I lived that situation," Farroukh said. "I thought I was keeping the family together so I was patient and tried to work it out and be the peace maker."
She figured out that the only solution was to leave.
Farroukh stood up for herself and told her husband that she was taking her kids and never coming back.
She said that he told her that she would come back but she proved him wrong.
