Detroit Mother, Boyfriend Charged With Murder, Torture In Death Of Her 7-Year-Old Son
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit mother and her boyfriend have been charged with first-degree murder and torture in the death of the woman's 7-year-old son who weighed only 27 pounds.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office said Monday that 22-year-old Victoria Foster and 28-year-old Cory Rimson were arraigned Friday.
Rimsom, Foster's live-in boyfriend, told investigators he took young Immanuel Foster to the Henry Ford Hospital emergency room after the he'd complained of abdominal pain and lost consciousness.
According to police, Immanuel was covered "from head to toe" with bruises and abrasions consistent with child abuse. He was pronounced dead at the hospital on Friday.
Investigators searched the boy's home, and possibly where his injuries occurred, near the corner of Richton and 14th streets. The home is located in a west side neighborhood along Rosa Parks Boulevard, between Chicago Boulevard and the Davison Freeway.
The owner of the home, Allen Rimson, who said his son was living there with the boy's mother and her three children, said he was surprised by allegations of abuse. He told WWJ's Charlie Langton the boy was apparently ill for a few days, had been having trouble keeping food down, and may have hurt himself when he fell while running to the bathroom.
The medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy but says it needs more tests to determine the cause and manner of death.
Victoria Foster and Rimson face preliminary examinations Nov. 6. Neither has attorneys listed in court documents.
Authorities removed two younger children from the home and placed them with Child Protective Services.
