Mom Competent To Stand Trial In Death Of 2 Kids
A woman accused of setting a fire in her boyfriend's trailer that killed two of her children has been found competent for trial.
Authorities say the then-29-year-old Sharon Hinojosa set the fire Oct. 9, 2009, before fleeing with another child. It happened in Wayne County's Huron Township, about 20 miles southwest of Detroit.
Charges include felony murder and arson. She faces mandatory life in prison if convicted as charged.
The fire killed 3-year-old Alayna and 4-year-old Anthony Hinojosa.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Diane Hathaway found Hinojosa competent Thursday. The trial starts Oct. 18.
A message seeking comment was left after late Thursday for defense lawyer Mike Granzeier.
