Mobile Jobs Center Rolls Into Detroit
Finding a job is hard enough. Not knowing how, makes it harder. Now the Detroit Workforce Development Department will try to answer that problem with Workforce One, a mobile jobs center that will visit neighborhoods and suburbs with training and employment opportunities.
Deputy Director Melvin Gupton said they are trying to reach people who will not or cannot visit their offices. "They may be intimidated by what they see as a bureaucratic office, or they don't have the transportation," Gupton told WWJ's Ron Dewey.
"This will allow us to reach out to those neighborhoods, and reach out to community groups and faith-based partners who are out there," he said.
Julian Tate, director of education at Focus HOPE says it will provide a direct connection to the people and employment opportunities otherwise out of their reach.
"Many of our students have a variety of transportation issues. I tink thbis really jump starts the opportunitiy for them....this will really facilitate opportunity for them," he said.
The blue-and-white 38-foot RV has been retrofitted with computer workstation where people can receive career training and development resumes with the aid of counselors on board. The mobile employment center will also help companies fill positions.
