MLK Peace Walk Celebration In Southfield
The city of Southfield and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force will host the 26th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Peace Walk Celebration on Monday, January 17 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Hope United Methodist Church, 26275 Northwestern Highway.
The walk will lead to the Southfield Pavillion where there will be an 11 a.m. program and that program will exemplify Dr. Kings philosophy; a multi-cultural program.
Last year there were over 2000 people attendance. WWJ's Mike Campbell spoke with Roger Goolsby, MLK Task Force President, "Because we do a lot of out-reach programs and sponsor workshops throughout the year, as well as scholarships, there will be a youthful contingent there and we encourage participation by youth as part of the service participation."
The mission of the MLK Task Force is to plan observances, activities and educational programs in remembrance of Dr. Kings' philosophy of non-violence and actions for creating positive social change." Goolsby said.
