High School Band's Olympic Dream Now $10K Away
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit's MLK High School Marching Band has a deadline this week. Band leader Victoria Miller says they have to raise $10,000 in the next few days for their trip to play at the London Olympics.
Miller said some of her students are all set, while others are struggling.
"Sometimes it's just the children don't believe in themselves, and this helps them learn to believe in the impossible," Miller told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil. "So, you know, we're working to build people. And that's what it's about -- building them into great people that can help us in the future."
The band was chosen from a host of bands across the nation. They will play four times during the Olympics, but they don't where or when just yet.
Miller said they'll accept returnable bottles and cans, loose change, pennies -- whatever you can spare.
