MJR Builds New Theatre Complex In Westland
WESTLAND (WWJ) - The locally owned movie theatre chain MJR is expanding its investment in Michigan and creating new jobs.
Construction began Thursday on an all-new, state-of-the-art, digital theatre complex in Westland. The MJR Westland Grand Digital Cinema 16 will be located at 6800 North Wayne Road and is scheduled to open on November 14, 2011. The new complex will bring more than 60 new jobs to the area.
When finished, the 65,000 square-foot complex will feature 16 screens, five of which will be equipped for 3D movies, and a total of 3,100 seats. The complex will also be equipped with 4Kdigital projection, which offers the ultimate size, resolution and picture quality.
"This is the most anticipated groundbreaking in the City of Westland in recent history," Mayor William R. Wild said in a release.
Michael Mihalich, MJR Digital Cinemas CEO and President, has been looking forward to being a part of Westland, the tenth largest community in Michigan."We're very excited to finally be breaking ground on the newest MJR Digital Cinema, and are extremely grateful to all the support we've received from the City of Westland. This is a community that very much wants and deserves a brand new, modern, state-of-the-art movie facility, and the all-new MJR Westland Grand will fulfill that need," he said in a release.
The Westland complex will increase MJR's total screen count to 132 among eight locations. Currently, MJR owns and operates digital cinemas in Adrain, Brighton, Chesterfield, Clinton Township, Sterling Heights, Southgate and Waterford.
A Michigan company that is a locally owned and operated, MJR Digital Cinemas has been serving Southeastern Michigan's entertainment needs for 30 years. Currently, the company employs 530 people.
