Mikel Leshoure Tore His Achilles And Out For The Season
A rough training camp got even rougher for the Lions, as they lose rookie running back Mikel Leshoure for the 2011 season with a torn achilles in his left leg. The Lions were counting on Leshoure to team with Jahvid Best to give Detroit a solid 1-2 punch at running back. The team will now look at available free agents to find a replacement for Leshoure, as well as give some players currently on the roster a chance to replace Leshoure - a group that includes Jerome Felton and former Boise State running back Ian Johnson, who was on the Lions' practice squad last season. It's slim pickings on the free agent market, however. Still available: Ricky Williams, Tiki Barber, Laurence Maroney and one-time Lion Kevin Smith.
Lions rookie RB Mikel Leshoure has been carted off the field today with an apparent lower left leg injury. The injury was reported by the many media members at practice today via Twitter.

Disregard reference to knee on Leshoure injury - looks like lower left leg.

Injury to Leshoure is a lower leg injury. They were working around the ankle and Achilles area.
