Mike Valenti: Mystery Man Of The Moment Is Bismack Biyombo
I'll be the first to tell you, I've never seen this man play.
Not a minute.
Guess what? Neither have 99% of "experts" out there.
Welcome to NBA Draft talk 2011. Clueless guesswork.
So with that established understand everything I say is based of scouting reports and way too much reading for the average guy.
I want Biyombo. I want a wildly athletic power forward to compliment the wildly un-athletic Greg Monroe.
I want a master help side defender and shot blocker to help the liability that is Monroe.
In essence, I want welfare Ben Wallace.
By all accounts Biyombo is just that. Smart, tough, athletic and a defender first. This team needs that before anything else. The league is going back to a more defensive tone and the Pistons must get back to some semblance of what used to be their calling card. I'm not claiming a frontcourt of Biyombo and Monroe is going to scare people. Not even close. But what it does do is properly pair two guys with opposite skill sets and hopefully allows them to play off of each other. Monroe's offensive gifts allow Biyombo to simply hit the glass and cut for dunks. Biyombo's looming wingspan and leaping allow Monroe to not be a liability guarding other bigs because he always has help. Sound familiar? It was big Ben and Rasheed.
It's not perfect. It won't fix everything. It's just the best I got with a collection of players we're all in the dark about.
